Update: Starting in 2013, I will be making regular trips to Iceland and Europe to document weddings. Specifically, in Summer of 2013 I will be spending a significant amount of time in Iceland. If you’re getting married in 2013 in Iceland, let me know and we can talk further about it. How did this all start up–here’s the story:
March 2012
I want to shoot a wedding in Iceland. As a kid, there were two countries that I always wanted to visit: Russia and Iceland. In 2010 I went to Russia–Moscow and St. Petersburg–and had the time of my life. Although my time in Russia was brief, it was incredible. For me, since I was learning the language and had developed close friendships with people from Russia, my trip was like visiting a friend and looking at their photo albums from when they were a kid; it helped explain so much to me. I was living in Lithuania at the time so we took the train to Moscow, something I recommend if you get the chance.
However, my other dream, Iceland, was a bit more elusive. However, in March of 2012 my girlfriend took a visit to Europe to visit me when I was living in Lithuania and I surprised her with a trip around Europe since it was her first time (and Lithuania is not the first country one thinks of when they imagine ‘Europe.”) Part of this surprise however was a quick trip to Iceland before we headed to other countries on the mainland.
No joke, our trip to Iceland, although it was only 4.5 days, was the best trip of my life. In that time we rented a car, drove to Snaefellsnes, hiked Sólheimajökull glacier, went to the Blue Lagoon (we’re so touristy) and toured around Reykjavik. It was the most beautiful place I have ever seen–it was as if we were on a different planet or in an alternate universe. Since our trip however (which was not very long ago) I’ve been really hoping that I can make a trip back. Our current goal is to go back sometime in the next two years to camp/roadtrip/hike along the Ring Road in the summer.
But I don’t want to wait two years. I would love to go back and I would love more than anything to shoot a wedding in Iceland. So, this is an open invitation. If you’re having a wedding in Iceland–don’t forget to let me know! You can help make a dream of mine come true, and hopefully I can do the same for you with my photography. I’ve photographed two overseas assignments, one in Edinburgh and one in Lithuania, and it would be a dream to add Iceland to the list.
I’m not sure if this idea/post will work, but it’s worth a shot. Let’s not forget to give credit where it’s due, I got this idea after seeing similar posts by Camilla and Cole at Nordica Photography and it worked out for some of them, so I’m got my fingers crossed!
