Today is Jen and Kane’s sixth month wedding anniversary. Very good (yet truly coincidental) timing. This whole trip to New Zealand is embedded in a lot of really beautiful emotions and moments. I had promised Hillary that if I ever booked a wedding in this region of the world, we would take a trip back to Papua New Guinea (where she grew up), so this wedding actually came at the tail-end of a month exploring that whole region…a few days in Brisbane with Hillary’s high school friends, ten days in PNG with so many people that were important in her life, and then three weeks in a campervan around New Zealand with Hills and her brother, Hayden. All in all, there are so many amazing moments shared, so many great hikes, late nights, adventures, mishaps, and everything in between. Being with Jen and Kane in Te Puna for their wedding at Kane’s family orchard was essentially the final thing on our itinerary, but it was truly an amazing way to end our trip.
Our time in New Zealand ultimately centers around the kindness and warmth of the people we met (including old friends). This will always be a special place and a very special zeitgeist of this era of our lives.
