A few months ago, my good friend Gene Pease invited me to photograph a wedding with him just outside of Minneapolis.
I met Gene almost three years ago at a poker night at his house. Since then, he has become one of my best friends and he and his family have opened up their homes and lives to me in so many ways. One of the things that strikes me most about Gene is how kind, generous, and gentle he is. He has a way of seeing the best in people, not getting caught up in hype, and connecting with people in an amazing way.
This wedding reflects two incredible people and their families and community; but it also reflects some of the best things about Gene. Being present on this day with him was something amazing to watch: his spirit, his kindness, his calming presence. Something that surpasses photography and boils over into the everyday.
Shine on, my friend. You’re doing amazing things.
The blog post below are some of my favorite moments throughout the wedding day. I’m sharing them all in black and white to strip away some of the distraction and to zero in on some of the emotion–the feeling. These are some of my favorite photographs from Gene of all time and it’s one of the most joyful weddings I’ve ever been a part of.
